Driving to training camp this week. I was going to do El Paso, Austin, Jackson, Winston, but then I never got out of Tucson on Monday. Tuesday was 12 hours from Tucson to Austin, a nice ride and a late start today from Austin, and hopefully I'll make it to Jackson tonight.  read more »

I'd just like to say thanks to all the people who've started commenting on the blog recently. If I can turn this into a place where grumpy old punk rockers who also like riding bikes hard can come to grouse with each other, then I will have finally accomplished something noble with Cycle-Smart.

Can't Stop Won't Stop

33 hours two weeks ago, 34 hours last week. 6 hours yesterday, 6:50 today. I leave the house at 9 or 10 on my bike, and get home at 5 or 6. I stumble around eating and showering for an hour, and then I work on Cycle-Smart from 6 or 7 until the cafe closes at 10. Then I eat more, and pass out.

If you don't hear from me lately, this is my life. I've been living alone in Tucson for the past two months, in a little efficiency with room for a bed, a stove, a little table, and my bike. Project Hot Animal Machine Tucson.  read more »

Rush

I've been feeling a Rush binge coming on. I tend to only listen to one band at a time, obsess about that band, collect everything, read liner notes, histories, line-up changes, etc., like a musical archeologist. I've known for a while that I've needed to go back and spend some time with Rush, particularly with the rise of post-rock and instrumental metal, of which I'm a big fan. Today they were playing "Working Man" in the cafe I was in, and if it wasn't for Geddy Lee's wailing voice, I'd have thought it was The White Stripes.  read more »
