A Battle of Watts With An Unarmed Man

Have you ever wondered what it takes to get 5th from last in an NRC time trial? To lose almost a minute and a half in less than 10 minutes, even though you really are trying?

Well for me, it takes 348 normalized watts for 9:53, riding my road bike with aero bars, deep dish wheels (but no disc), and a lot of convincing myself to keep pedaling hard. (I opted to stay on my Reynolds 66 rear wheel because I wanted the PowerTap hub and data more than I wanted whatever seconds I would have gained from using one of the team's discs.)

Elk Grove is my return to racing after breaking my wrist 6 weeks ago, and while I considered the TT my opening up workout after a week off the bike, 3 weeks of training, and 4 days of rest, I really did give it 100%. It just goes to show you that I don't do my job with watts, but with wits.

*Edited to say, oh Lyne, you're the best:

Funny, my position doesn't look as terrible as I thought.
