Wilmington, Savannah, Samsula, January 9, 2010

Man, I've had this blog entry half done all week! The Cycle-Smart January Cyclo-Cross Tour is under way, and if I don't blog about it, it didn't really happen, right? But when you're spending three days in the car, racing three days in a row, trying to work any time you can sit still with an internet connection, the time to stop and reflect and report on what your up to is limited. It's why I rely on Twitter so much. I can dump all the voices in my head out through my phone, and into the world.

So at least, for now, I'm going to use the photos I took to get you up to speed.

First, I left Boston last Wednesday, two days after I originally planned. Snow, new clients, moving Janice in, and moving me out all took a lot more time than I had budgeted. Two weeks off the bike, and one more week of an hour here and there, and I still wasn't caught up on life. My season started the previous December 26th, when I left for Tucson. How was I going to get enough of this in just three weeks of "off-season," when off-season consists of packing up for the next season?

Wednesday night I made it to Tom McDaniel's place in Wilmington, DE, pretty much in time to catch up with Tom, sleep, wake up, and get back in the car.

I didn't ride at all on Thursday, and twelve hours later, I made it to Ryan Leech's place in Savannah, GA. Ryan took me around for veggie burgers and Abt 12, and then on to a party with his fellow SCAD grad students. Irony is not usually my game, but I couldn't help myself, and rolled with a 750 of Corsendonk like it was a 40 of Old E. 'Cause you know, that's how we do it.

We didn't stay too late, well, because:

Catching up with Ryan was awesome, though, and he's one of my favorite dudes in the world. I'm sure you have a friend you wish you lived closer to, that you have a connection with you can't fully explore because of distance or logistics? Ryan's one of those guys for me.

I left Savannah bright and early the next morning, and made the rest of the say down to Samsula, Florida, for stage 1 of the GG Events 'Cross Classic. Hopefully I'll get to that later tonight. I'm going to try to make these diary entries a little bit of "Get In The Van" style, and use dates and cities blog titles. I spend so, so many days on the road. It's time I document it better.

Still, I say it all the time: sometimes you're too busy living life to have the time to stop and talk about it.
