Forget the NRC

This is what gets me out of bed in the morning:

I love having a real crit series to chase after. These are the best events I get to do all year. I don't care if any of these races are part of the NRC or not. When you show up at Athens or Austin or San Francisco and there are fans 10 deep around a 1K course, you really feel like you're part of something worth doing. I'd rather do any of these crits for $10,000 than race in an empty housing development in Elk Grove for $100,000. That race is terrible.

Sad not to see Boise included this year, though. Last year was the first year I got out to that race, and it was definitely a top-notch criterium. Boise was also a really great city, and I can see why the people who live there love it so much, despite being 8 hours from anywhere.

The USA Crit Series is my biggest target of the year, and I'm confident that with the increased form I have, and by specifically making it a goal from start to finish, I can improve on my second place from last season. I'll be at every event this year, and with a team like Hekman, Soladay, Barlevav, Stoop, Ramsey, and Guttenplan, can we lose?

I like that USA Crits is separate from the NRC, as it adds a real avenue for smaller pro/elite teams to mix it up. Plus if USA Cycling was running the show, it wouldn't be nearly as fun. I'm still missing the New Haven Green crit that used to be part of the Tour of Connecticut. That was yearly highlight for me.
