Not sure if you've heard the squawk, but apparently Lance had that text on his bottom bracket at the Tour Down Under. VeloNews reports on it here:

Do people not really know what it stands for? Do you have to be part of the post-'90's era hardcore scene to know that FSU stands for Fuck Shit Up?

The real FSU is a gang that started in Brockton and extends nationwide, and is an acronym for Friends Stand United, or Fuck Shit Up, depending on who's getting punched. It's legendary for extreme violence, initially against the Nazi skinhead scene that had started to infiltrate Boston hardcore, but also towards drunk jocks exiting Red Sox games on Landsdowne Street. I wonder if Lance has any idea what he's tapping into by using those initials?

What, it's not really a reference to Florida State University?! Snicker snicker... It's still odd for me as well, when you have particular cultural knowledge that others have no clue about. I still have conversations with people where I have to explain that when I mention "hardcore" or "time in the hardcore scene" it is not some sort of veiled reference to adult film (I mean, seriously?) Or how "punk" does not necessarily equate to say, having a mohawk or liberty spikes. Kinda good for the occasional diversion though, and always a chance to explain the positive aspects of the lifestyles. My guess: we'll see LA appear with some Earth Crisis kids as his new security squad... Forget the bald Springer-bodyguard lookalike, for 2009, it's HOODS UP PEOPLE! Nah honestly he probably listens to Fall Out Boy while holding himself tightly at night...
